The UKCAT is an extremely tightly-timed test designed to assess both candidates’ mental abilities and how they might respond to patients. The majority of the exam tests critical thinking, verbal and mathematical skills; and 2007 saw the addition of noncognitive questions. Scientific knowledge will not be tested. This test is designed to identify those applicants with the strongest aptitude for a career in medicine or dentistry and is used as a key factor in deciding which applicants get invited for interview.
